چکیده
Abstract PLA and its nanocomposite containing 3% chitosan nanoparticles (PLA-3CsNP) were studied to see how γ -irradiation affected their characteristics. Different doses of applied the investigated materials under inquiry (5–40 kGy) using 60 Co at ambient conditions. The irradiation characterized by FT-IR, GPC, mechanical tensile test, DSC, XRD, TGA in solid chloroform solutions. molecular weight was lowered when dose increased, indicating that γ-irradiation had dominating effect through oxidative degradation, chain scission. addition reduces impact γ-irradiation, while samples irradiated solution showed more degradation after than films. Irradiation caused a decrease strength elongation break values. Both melting temperature (Tm) glass transition (Tg) decreased as increased. crystallization peak temperatures reduced pure solution. thermal stability diminished raised, this pronounced

Effects of Biomass in Polyethylene or Polylactic Acid Composites
There is need for bioplastics to replace some of the total petroleum plastics used in the world, and help alleviate environmental pollution. Compounding bioplastics with Polyethylene (PE) or Polylactic acid (PLA) containing a dairy-based bioplastic resulted in composites with good mechanical properties. In this study, mass ratios of a dairy-protein-based material (DBP) ranging from 0, 5, 10 and...
متن کاملBiodegradable Polylactic Acid (PLA) Microstructures for Scaffold Applications
In this research, we present a simple and cost effective soft lithographic process to fabricate PLA scaffolds for tissue engineering. In which, the negative photoresist JSR THB-120N was spun on a glass subtract followed by conventional UV lithographic processes to fabricate the master to cast the PDMS elastomeric mold. A thin poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) layer was used as a mode release such that ...
متن کاملPolylactic acid (PLA)
This website provides an excellent overview of PLA as a polymer, its properties, and manufacture. This web article describes the production of lactic acid from biomass by microbial fermentation coupled to a poly-merization process to make PLA. The article is a bit dated and its industrial projections are now seen to be a bit over-optimistic. NatureWorks is the company that started large-scale p...
متن کاملPolylactic acid composites incorporating casein functionalized cellulose nanowhiskers
BACKGROUND Polylactic acid (PLA) is considered to be a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based polymers for many applications. Using cellulose fiber to reinforce PLA is of great interest recently due to its complete biodegradability and potential improvement of the mechanical performance. However, the dispersion of hydrophilic cellulose fibers in the hydrophobic polymer matrix is usually poo...
متن کاملNew Polylactic Acid Composites Reinforced with Artichoke Fibers
In this work, artichoke fibers were used for the first time to prepare poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-based biocomposites. In particular, two PLA/artichoke composites with the same fiber loading (10% w/w) were prepared by the film-stacking method: the first one (UNID) reinforced with unidirectional long artichoke fibers, the second one (RANDOM) reinforced by randomly-oriented long artichoke fibers. Bo...
